My Star Wars obsession

August 17, 2016

So as many people who know me know that I have a serious obsession for Star Wars. Since I was a kid, I have always been drawn to the Galaxy Far Far Away with the excitement of a 6 year old and Christmas. I've seen all the movies hundreds of time, TV shows, cartoons, comic books, toys, music and now I have stepped into the world of cosplay. Before you groan and roll your eyes, hear me out.

I'm not looking at trying to make this my job or anything. I admire all of the cosplayers out there that are able to do this. The abilities to self promote, get crowd-sourced funding and technologies that make these professionals just that, were not quite invented yet when I was at a point in my life that I would have even been able to consider that an option. I still don't have what it takes to be a pro or even in the ranks of a popular cosplayer, but I do have 2 kids that would love to dress up with me and we can all have fun as a family. See I'm not trying to make a living at it, I'm just trying to live it.

So with all that being said I'm going to add a page on my website for my Star Wars obsession. I will have photos of my progress with my costumes. Here is a preview of the Han Solo costume that is in the works:

As you can see, I've got quite a bit done on it, but I still have so far to go. This is Empire Strikes Back Han Solo and still have to finish some serious detail work. The main items being the leather holster and the DL-44 blaster. This costume is pretty close to being something that will be great for Halloween and parties maybe even a convention.

As for the big one I'm working on and have been going through the proper channels to legitimize this costume, I'm going to attempt to build a set of Mandalorian armor. I acquired some close to finished armor on eBay and I'm going to try and finish it and maybe even join the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club. For those not familiar, they are a Star Wars costume club that is focused on the Mandalorian culture and they go out and troop for charitable events. To me that's a win-win situation. I can dress up like Star Wars Characters and raise money for charity?

I'm in.

So here is a look at what I have for this project so far:

This is the basic concept of what I'm going for here:

So again, I have a long way to go but it's been fun so far and my kids dig it, so I guess I'm going to see where it all goes.

If this kind of stuff interest you, then check out the page I'm adding here to showcase this progress.

Until next time,,, MTFBWY. Always.
